This summer, my husband and I made a trip to Deauville, France, where I pursued a photographic residency for the Planches Contact festival.
Instead of flying, we decided not to “gain” time, but to make the best of it and arrive there by train, in order to feel the distance, not just overcome it. We left Bucharest on the 10th of June and reached Deauville on the 13rd of June. To document our journey, we took two rolls of Impossible films and made 11 polaroids with the 11 stations where we switched trains.
We did not experience the urgent desire to arrive our destination; instead, we let ourselves carried by the amalgam of emotions which accompanied our road – from wonder and pure joy, to nostalgia, dizziness, fatigue and the pressure to catch a train in just a few minutes.
Here are the eleven stations.
